Quattuor Scapes: Immersive Interactive Installation
The concept is inspired by Jungian archetypes and the Four Temperaments theory, psychological frameworks with roots in ancient traditions. The Four Temperaments theory, originally stemming from the medical theories of ancient Greece, was developed by Hippocrates (c. 460 – c. 370 BCE), often regarded as the "Father of Medicine." It theorises that human behaviour and personality are shaped by a balance of bodily fluids (blood, yellow bile, black bile, and phlegm), leading to the categorization of individuals into four temperaments: sanguine, choleric, melancholic, and phlegmatic. These temperaments have persisted as symbolic representations of energy, focus, emotion, and harmony, forming the foundation of this experience. Jungian archetypes, similarly, offer timeless models for understanding universal traits within the human psyche, providing depth and context to the Body, Mind, and Soul explored in Quattuor Scapes.

A striking visual element of the NPCs is the addition of wings, inspired by Greek mythology, to signify their distinct roles. The Body features wings on the feet, reminiscent of Hermes, the Greek god known for speed, athleticism, and physicality, highlighting its role as a vessel for engaging with the physical world. For the Soul, divine presence is embodied through ethereal wings that signify the impulse of one’s spirit, creativity, and emotional depth, bridging the earthly and the transcendent. Meanwhile, the Mind is adorned with wings on the head, a symbol of mindfulness, clarity, and control over mental processes, representing intellectual focus and introspection. These elements not only ground the NPCs in mythology but also visually communicate their unique roles within the experience.

Through interactivity and digital storytelling, Quattuor Scapes seamlessly merges physical and virtual realms, allowing players to reflect on the fluidity of self-expression in the modern world. By immersing themselves in diverse environments, participants engage with the interplay of Body, Mind, and Soul, exploring how these facets of identity respond to contrasting scenarios. This duality, resisting definition while embracing individuality, is at the heart of the experience.

Far more than an interactive game, Quattuor Scapes is a profound exploration of identity, encouraging participants to engage with the multifaceted nature of existence. By connecting with the Body, Mind, and Soul in each environment, visitors are invited to consider the harmony, or conflict within themselves, fostering a deeper understanding of how we relate to ourselves and the worlds we inhabit.
